Sunshine Girl: Should you invest in a bold coloured long dress? #HellYes

Whoever said we need to stick to basic colours for flowy dresses was completely wrong. Highly inspired from Sonam Kapoor’s NYE dress is my boat neck yellow wonder.

Although I haven’t worn it out yet, I’m hoping to inaugurate this one soon enough. In my head, I am IIFA green carpet ready, for a swanky brand launch, or even a bloggers event; obviously for family events and weddings too.

The bold statement that you will make by sporting a colour like this exudes confidence, poise and style like no one else around you. Don’t hesitate carrying this outfit in the day or night, all that matters is how you carry yourself. Believe and shine on firefly.

Okay, maybe only the colour is Sonam inspired. Cause, real life problems is not a thing for her. But, wearing a gown like dress in a colour like this is a first time for me. And I am thrilled to have invested in it!

Kept the shoes nude, you musn’t want to add another colour to something already so bright and happy.

You’ll be surprised to know how cheap the fabric cost is, go hunt a pretty colour in any fabric that promises a great fall and get this made. Also you can hunt for something similar in the malls. Dekhlo bhai. IMG_0426-1

All White, So bright. #SummerWeddings #MaaKaWardrobe

Still looking to add to your wedding wear collection? You absolutely must invest in an all white piece.

Be it an Anarkali, a pretty gown, a straight kurta or a lehenga. The possibilities to style an all white outfit are unimaginable. Here you will see my first time experimenting with an asymmetric Anarkali. The wow-factor remains the fact that it is all white and I can style it completely differently just by alternating add-ons.

Dupattas, earrings, makeup, footwear and other accessories are the real style quotient sometimes, hence details are everything. Pay close attention 😛

LMPL4855A bright stole/ dupatta like this one ended up being the game changer of my whole look. To balance that pop of colour I put on my gorgeous pink earrings by Tarksya, and added my multi-colour kolhapuri from Abba Shoes.

LMPL4856

Best part about creating the kurta was the fact that I had an old semi georgette saree lying around in the house until my designer from Ginni’s couture creations came up with this. We stuck to classic detailing with pearls and a hint of gold to go with the old saree border. Always believe in the power of #MaaKaWardrobe

LMPL4871

I feel so incomplete without my Mumma’s bindi, each time I wear Indian.

LMPL4894

Adding an entire layer of georgette over the old saree made the outfit more elegant and royal! Keeping royal in mind, I had to try on a look which stuck to ultimate classics and no bright added tones.

LMPL4912

Major Sonam Kapoor vibes were being felt with the styling of this look, also made me quite proud of myself.

If you are one of those who think white will enlarge your body shape or anything on the lines, kindly drop that silly idea and try this. Also, i really think i can dye this into a completely different shade someday and flaunt it all over again!

LMPL4927

Notice how the draping of the dupatta can also impact your look so greatly.

Drop that shoulder! KoovsXJugni

Continuing on the ongoing cold shoulder craze, here is a simple look you have to try the next time you are stepping out!

Jugni tip: not a good idea to go dancing in an off shoulder top, as the elastic slides up each time your arms move to do your moves! *NotGoodBro*

Besides that tiny winy little glitch, here is our first ever tie up with Koovs! *yayy* Also, I seriously believe only super stylish people wear Koovs, I find their stuff super cool you must check it out if you haven’t already! This summer also is about investing in white denims! The summery-spring-y-floral tops and hyper colours are best when paired with a classic white pair!

I got my hands on the most epic fit from Zara. Although, I do think that lighter coloured bottoms do make my thighs appear broader, the length of the tops you wear the changes the game completely. So choose smart. My sling bag holds just the essentials and went effortlessly with the look, also the reflectors from Anjuna, Goa added swag!

IMG_0470 IMG_0472

An absolute must try are the jump in shoes, which are comfy enough to keep you running in all day at the mall or amidst your errands. I love the little bling which I teamed with my cute-sy two finger ring.

Did you see? Do you like? Won’t you try?

Pondicherry wich gal mithi mithi bol! A breakdown on South India’s traditional saree!

This is not a sponsored post, this is not a drill. This is a little informative and more entertaining than ever. Read on!

Jugni & Co founders recently took our first trip alone to Pondicherry! Yay! Bucket list is finally shorter! *phew* the pressure social media creates is immense nai? While we strutted around in the mini french colony that India boasts of it struck us to do a full post on the classic south Indian saree. And no, kanjeevaram is not the only types of saree they have. So many varieties, so many stories behind them, here is a breakdown on my favourite one!

The garment we are referring to is traditionally called the Mundum Neriyathum (or its modernized version –Kasavu Saari). The origin of Mundum Neriyathum can be traced back to third century BC when Shramana tradition was spread all over Kerala. Shramanas followed a simple lifestyle. They used to wear hand woven cotton cloths which is yellowish off-white in colour. The gold borders were added on later, when we spoke to locals we figured how this beauty has been worn to temples, weddings, special occasions and even in routine.

Have you ever noticed the traditional attires all across India, You can see that locals tends to wear fabrics with colour contrasting to the landscape of that region. For example, the colourful Rajasthani/ Kutchhi styles match the desert landscape of Rajasthan; or radiant traditional dress of Kashmiri women contrasting with the whitish landscape of Kashmir. Likewise, the off-white coloured Mundum Neriyathum contrast well with vivid landscape of Southern India!

Ok, I know we were not exactly in Kerela, but then again how often do we take a trip to the south and when would we get to do such a fun shoot? Then sprang in visuals of Sonam Kapoor dancing to Gal Mithi Mithi Bol, and the wedding scene from 2 States; and all i wanted was to try this look! Surprisingly, we got this ready saree for only INR435 and the readymade blouse for another INR 200. Holii stepped in to provide us with beautiful bags to complete this look.

Disclaimer: I don’t know much about the fabrics, sarees and authentic details about this trend. Points mentioned here are purely out of our little research 🙂

But, tell me; have you tried a traditional attire somewhere you travelled? Like the pahadi dressing up north, or the tea gardens inspired dressing, or anything that made you feel like doing a little happy dance? Also, wouldn’t you try on a saree like this one on your next occasion. I think it’s ideal for summer weddings too!

Cold Shoulders and Ripped Jeans! #TrendAlert

Who knew giving a cold shoulder would be cool!

Cold shoulder tops are the rage right now. And they are so perfect for the summer. What I love about them is the perfect balance of skin show and hide! These consist of peek-a-boo sleeves, off shoulders, one shoulder tops or in-cut sleeves, punch hole sleeves and many more. Basically all those that flaunt your sexy shoulders!

Try them in basic colours with interesting denims like the one below, or even pair this with a fitted skirt for a casual chic vibe. These looks also show my love for basic solid colours and how black and white are the answers to any style problem. You are never over or under dressed when you put on the classics.

Don’t you agree? Have a look and let me know how you liked this easy look.

The top 3 Desi Looks you need to add to your wardrobe, If you haven’t already.

You can do denims, skirts and dresses but nothing slays like an authentic Indian/ traditional look. Whether you’re the only one going design in college or adapting these into a routine family gathering, these are the 3 must have looks you need to try asap!

Kurta- Pallazzos

If you haven’t guessed it yet, I am obsessed with palazzo pants, they make me look taller and give me a feeling of being the most elegantly dressed when in a crowd! The trend started early 2015 and looks like it’s here to stay. Mix and match with interesting prints and colours to create different looks. They are so comfortable and effortlessly stylishly you might consider ditching all other forms of bottoms completely!

Patiala Salwar:

Nothing says casual desi like patiala suits, they define easy, functional style to me. Especially after Tanu weds Manu, I see myself turning to a patiala suit more often than not these days.

Jugni Tip: You need to find the right tailor to give you a real patiala salwar, it’s not as easy as it looks to have those perfect pleats in a hot fit, you might have to struggle with a few trials. But I suggest don’t settle till you feel full punjabi kuddie. Also, preferably get one from the north! I got this beautiful fabric from Ahmedabad for as less as INR 90 per metre and the short fitted kurta made me feel like Alia Bhatt from Humpty Sharma! If you don’t have this set in your wardrobe you are certainly missing out on a classic.

Kurti- Leggings

This is a cheat salwar kameez, or a chudidar kurta’s modernised version. It’s available everywhere you go and is so easy to carry. All the big brands have made multiple styles of kurtas ready to buy for us. From the A-lines, to the straight fits, the asymmetrical to a simple slit one like this they can all add interesting elements in your wardrobe. The gungroo on this kurta made me buy it without a second thought, also, the chudidar sleeves are so pretty nai?

Jugni Tip: Since leggings are skin tight, the length of the kurta should be below knee length or it can look weird, also colours like beige or skin tone for a legging will make it look like you aren’t wearing any, so be careful!

The not so routine- everyday look you must try! #WrapThat

I’m pretty confident that all you girlies have a printed wrap around skirt in that wardrobe. Either you received it as a gift, or bought it at a fair or just ordered one cause you felt that you could rock this look.

Well, if you have been struggling what to team it with just like I was, I decided to go dead-basic. T-shits just about fit into any look, you can layer the look with a long cape, you could even wear the skirt with a nice plain kurta. The options are endless, here is one such option that you can easily carry to your next work day or college too.

Wrap around skirts tend to suit most body types, they are easy to wear and really comfortable if you have to run errands all day. Adding desi accessories and kolhapuri chappals added an interesting blend to the look for the day. Go ahead and #WrapThat

Als, i wore the same skirt with a plain white tee while on a vacation with family, find a bonus picture with my Mumma ji below.

Tee-Series: Styling a round neck t-shirt, again.

Taking cue from our last post in the same series that you can read here; I am still obsessing over the 3 uber cool doodled t-shirts that I got designed by The Filmy owl (Angel Bedi) from PosterGully.com

I was absolutely overwhelmed when so many of you sent me photos wearing the same t-shirts! Yay, blogger feel. Keeping the core thought the same, we cannot do with them can’t do without. Round neck basic t-shirts or chest print t-shirts are not just to work out or sleep in, they need to be worn out. You need to surprise yourself at how stylish you can make this wardrobe staple look. Watch and learn 😛

_DSC7577 _DSC7561 _DSC7547

It’s not difficult to understand when you add crisp white denims and heeled footwear you are definitely going strong on your style game. I have worn the same t-shirt with shorts as well as harem pants and I swear the whole look becomes unique with different shoes and pants. Also, makeup and accessories. The bag, shoes, red lips, earrings all add up to this look and makes it wearable to a dinner or evening wear.

#MaaKaWardrobe Here’s what you can do with that gorgeous silk saree.

When it comes to classic pieces, I find all my answers in Mumma’s wardrobe. From the most epic dupattas to authentic embroidery and fabrics that stay forever there is everything!

I have been eyeing Maa’s saree collection for the longest time, and when I finally got my hands on this one I knew I wanted to create magic with it. So, out of the many things you can do with your mom’s silk saree you can also convert it into a beautiful pleated skirt/lehenga. Just like you’ll see in the pictures below. This classic digital print, pure silk, gold and sea green piece is my Nani Maa’s treasure passed on to my mother and is now mine. By adding a pop of blue in a beautiful raw silk, I tried to put in a little life onto the colour which made me look a little pale when draped as a saree.

The saree has so much legacy attached to it, I almost feel like I’m wearing years of family style with each step in my new skirt. Crop top and skirt trend looks like it’s here to stay, hence it just fits well with fashion today created by a piece from the 60’s. What do you think of it? Do you have an old treasure from #MaaKaWardrobe that you would like to revamp? Write into us and let’s brainstorm together!
