My own Elsa’s Gown. #MonsoonWeddingInspiration

While I miss my summer wardrobe, and dream of cosy winters already. I was having trouble creating a fashion board for the ongoing season. You can swiftly move to culottes and skinny fit ankle length denim when it starts pouring, the struggle is occasional wear in the monsoon!

The obvious choice was moving into blues, greens & aqua on the colour wheel, and then the biggest inspiration came up! Elsa, from Frozen. The gorgeous blue gown, those airy sleeves and that pretty drape, what part of it don’t we like? In my latest collaboration with Pune’s leading designer Seema Singh, I got a chance to pick an outfit that inspired the Elsa within me.

It’s beautiful cut & drapery made me love it, at first sight, also the shade blue made me so happy, see the images and you’ll feel it too. In a quick chat with the designer herself, she said Monsoon fashion can’t be restricted to blues, greens and monsoon-y colours, at weddings and occasions people continue to wear a bright pop of colours to contrast the rather gloomy weather. However, you can avoid absolute pastels, whites and greys!

Have a look at the outfit below, tell me if you’d wear something like this to your next party! Till then, Be Jugni!

Cape it out! #TrendSpotting in my super late travel post! #JugniChaliPondicherry

While we struggled to complete all the places on our to-do list, you know these bloggers they always squeeze in time for a quick shoot! Have a look at a fun recreated version of Alia Bhatt’s Buddhu sa Mann look. Hope you like it as much as I did sporting it.

IMG_8302

I was also supremely skeptical about sporting these shorts, never before length this is. But I did realise I was my biggest critic and no one out there gave me a look, it was all in my mind. The cape does help cover up problem areas in an attire like this and adds much-needed confidence boost with the obvious splash of colour.

Must try!IMG_8297

Summer Weddings: Here’s your something blue.

Something old, Something new, something borrowed and something blue!

Even though this was said as the good luck essentials a bride must carry on her D-day, what’s stopping from carrying the luck around on every single day. Umm, not meaning to offend any tradition here, but it’s so cute and the quote plays on my head randomly. Hence the following.

IMG_0430

If you haven’t done straight cut long kurtas yet, you are running over a few years late on the trend. Got this simple fabric from a local market and made an interesting neckline which was enough to dress it up.

IMG_0436 IMG_0445

While kurtas like these will look great with pallazzos, the good old leggings didn’t disappoint me here either.

IMG_0447

Paired with multi coloured kolhapuris from Abba, my look was completed with a traditional jhumka that I picked from a recent trip to Delhi.

IMG_0450

An outfit like this fits well on smaller wedding functions like roka, engagements or just about anywhere you think you can pull this off. A little late into the season I still think investing in a pretty shade of blue with a long kurtacan be work anytime of the year.

Drop that shoulder! KoovsXJugni

Continuing on the ongoing cold shoulder craze, here is a simple look you have to try the next time you are stepping out!

Jugni tip: not a good idea to go dancing in an off shoulder top, as the elastic slides up each time your arms move to do your moves! *NotGoodBro*

Besides that tiny winy little glitch, here is our first ever tie up with Koovs! *yayy* Also, I seriously believe only super stylish people wear Koovs, I find their stuff super cool you must check it out if you haven’t already! This summer also is about investing in white denims! The summery-spring-y-floral tops and hyper colours are best when paired with a classic white pair!

I got my hands on the most epic fit from Zara. Although, I do think that lighter coloured bottoms do make my thighs appear broader, the length of the tops you wear the changes the game completely. So choose smart. My sling bag holds just the essentials and went effortlessly with the look, also the reflectors from Anjuna, Goa added swag!

IMG_0470 IMG_0472

An absolute must try are the jump in shoes, which are comfy enough to keep you running in all day at the mall or amidst your errands. I love the little bling which I teamed with my cute-sy two finger ring.

Did you see? Do you like? Won’t you try?

#MaaKaWardrobe Here’s what you can do with that gorgeous silk saree.

When it comes to classic pieces, I find all my answers in Mumma’s wardrobe. From the most epic dupattas to authentic embroidery and fabrics that stay forever there is everything!

I have been eyeing Maa’s saree collection for the longest time, and when I finally got my hands on this one I knew I wanted to create magic with it. So, out of the many things you can do with your mom’s silk saree you can also convert it into a beautiful pleated skirt/lehenga. Just like you’ll see in the pictures below. This classic digital print, pure silk, gold and sea green piece is my Nani Maa’s treasure passed on to my mother and is now mine. By adding a pop of blue in a beautiful raw silk, I tried to put in a little life onto the colour which made me look a little pale when draped as a saree.

The saree has so much legacy attached to it, I almost feel like I’m wearing years of family style with each step in my new skirt. Crop top and skirt trend looks like it’s here to stay, hence it just fits well with fashion today created by a piece from the 60’s. What do you think of it? Do you have an old treasure from #MaaKaWardrobe that you would like to revamp? Write into us and let’s brainstorm together!

My designer suggested that we added removable layers of can-can in the skirt which made me feel like a total royalty, also, I can remove it and style it down as and when required! So cool! Designed by Ginni’s Studio.

Monsoon Gloom to Glam!

“Fashion is about dreaming, and making other people dream.”

Such inspiring words to read on a monday, nai? Whenever i start to feel a little worthless, i read these random quotes on pinterest, though the effects are not long lasting, temporarily they lift me up! have you ever tried? This post is another effort to help you dream a little dream to be a glam diva!

That is exactly how I felt, with a new photographer and a full fledged hi-fashion shoot. Hair, make up, lights et al. We’ve tried to level up this post onwards doing better pictures not just for Jugni & Co. but to make you dream of this glam feeling, ok i know i said that before, but you get the excitement right? Monsoon on most days gets to me, makes me gloomy, makes me worry about my frizzy hair and being unable to wear long gowns and sexy heels. ‘Gloom to Glam’ was inspired from that feeling.

So what do you do when the baarish is not filmy and pretty, it is sad and makes you stay indoors all the time? You lift yourself up, with fashion quotes, vogue, and extra doses of caffeine. Shown below are too simple looks, that i am pretty sure you have in your wardrobe. These dresses are basic, but the make up is grand! With our hair and makeup specialist Saba Poonawala (follow her on instagram!), She made me understand that any look can be glammed up with the right kind of make up. so pay close attention to monsoon special makeup trends!

Monsoon make-up tips:

  1. Stay clear from liquid foundations, stick to powder press compacts or go ahead and invest in this magical product that I swear by. The MAC studio fix. It has never failed me, gives enough coverage and keeps me photo ready always!
  2. Try a Dia Mirza inspired dewy-dreamy look, use a little shimmer-mineralise powder all over the face, highlight your cheekbones with a light pink/peach shimmer highlighter like the one i use. Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer brick, it’s a little expensive but so pretty! As seen in the first look.
  3. If the au natural look is not your type, do a nice bold liner like the deep blue used in look 2 below, and super bright lips. Bright pink or a bold red rarely does any harm to anyone. Nude lips, might just look more gloomy if not paired with the right outfit and eyes. Bright lips always add that happy zest to your face and the over all look.
  4. When it’s about lining and accentuating the eyes, waterproof picks are a no-brainer. But these formulations have chemicals that dry the lashes and sensitive skin on the eyelids. To maintain the resilience of your lashes first coat them with a volumising or lengthening mascara. Build it up by topping with waterproof mascara. When it comes to liners, for a flawless matte finish, go for a felt-pen liner or a gel liner verses a pencil that’s cream-based. It dries quickly and stays put.
  5. Final tip: Seal in your look with a make up fixer, the one from MAC is amazing!

An almost pastel dress, with the ongoing high-low hemline, bright eyes and super bright lips! Makes you monsoon trending!

How to repeat a dress, guilt free & stylishly

Apart from working on my Forever 21 sale haul, this post is going to help you with easy style hacks to wear your favourite dress to death.

We’re all guilty of owning a dress that we just cannot get enough of, to a club, to a brunch, to college, to office, even to bed if we could. This dress is your turn to whatever the occasion maybe. Having said that, I was delighted to find this easy-peasy casual dress at the recent F21 monsoon sale. Priced at only INR 500 (after discount) I didn’t see a reason for me not to buy it, infact i almost picked two. OK. Enough rambling, getting to the point. Working on this post made me realise the power of layering and accessories. So simple, and how unthankful we are to all the things that can completely turn around a look from elegant lady to school-girl.

Here are FIVE ways to repeat a basic dress, guilt free and stylishly.

1. Add on: A printed cape.

Printed capes are big right now, wear a pair of shorts and a tshirt and throw on a floor length printed cape, wear it on a dress or even a short cape on a maxi dress. So pretty, you have to try it. And the tassels just got me on this one!

2. Add on: A light shirt.

So honestly i just loved this shirt, but it doesn’t fit me. I mean the buttons just won’t shut, so instead of giving it a slow death at the back of my wardrobe, here’s what i did. Threw it on, and voila, look so pretty, let down or tied-up. It adds so much character to the dress, with the right bag i could wear it anywhere i like.

DSC_0064 DSC_0054

3. Add on: A Backpack.

Dressing down an outfit is my favourite task. Took-over this checkered backpack from my kid sister’s wardrobe. Duh. Elder sisters give you no choice. Also laid my hands on cutesy tiara print socks and monochrome shoes to go with the bag. And the minion sipper just felt so right. Ideal for a picnic this look just took me back to teenage.

DSC_0107 DSC_0112

DSC_0131

Also notice how the bag drops and I go from full school girl to tuition girl swag. C’mon you know you opened your hair, pulled down your socks and threw the bag on one shoulder when you went to classes! Especially girls school. *ahem*

DSC_0138

4. Add on: A lace-y cape.

Taking the whole look to date night level was my borrowed lace-cape and suede heels. The black made just a drastic contrast to the dress, that it helped me up the look to an almost formal level. Heels also took the casual-ness of the dress out of the picture.

Ready for derby 😛

5. Add on: Jeggings.

Nobody remembers a dress worn as a top worn as a dress! You get it, confuse them by wearing it as a tunic top on skinny jeans or jeggings. Drape a scarf to make the top also look a little detailed, you could also wear a statement neckpiece, here i have worn my cape as a scarf and it works perfectly thanks to the tassels. Hai na simple? Try toh karo, your wardrobe is full of surprises and you don’t even know it.

The outfit that is Un-Fail-able. #triedandtested

Sometimes I feel like we should talk about things that are life changing. And you know really important things, like world peace. World peace makes me think of the speeches in Miss.Congeniality. And that makes me think of the pretty dresses they wore. And then basically i’m back to talking about this. Dressing up is important OK, if you won’t always be dressed well how will Karan Johar spot you and launch you. If you don’t always be dressed well, how will your Mr. Right bump into you and fall in love-at-first-sight, and how will you do the Kangana Ranaut-queen-walk of independence in like not a properly styled look!

You get the drift? It’s important. Sometimes it is life changing. Pay attention. 😛

So what happens on the days when you’re like i’m too cool to put an effort into dressing up. Then the below shown look is what you need to adapt too. *phew* what a build up to something so easy!

OK, back to point. The one look which is completely un-fail-able is the white t-shirt with blue jeans look. There is no way you have not tried this before, but i’m sure you did not think of it’s swag level when you did it.

It’s the one look which is accepted as even high couture if done right. Do it up with accessories, do it down with chappals. On a bad hair day or not, with heels or flats, with make-up or no makeup, tucked in or out, belt or no belt, there is no reason for you not to do this. I insist that you wear some swag sunglasses with it though.

Wear a white shirt and blue jeans to office, wear a collared t-shirt and jeans to college, wear a chikan white short kurti with some bangles to a small family function, or simply throw on a t-back with your fav pair of denims and go rock-chic-in-a-hard-rock-world!!

On days when you want to put the least thought into what you will be wearing, or on days when you cannot afford to go wrong do it with blind faith!

The white top and blue jeans look is your saviour.

Summer Blues.

The heat is killing this time around. If Pune has gotten so bad, can’t imagine how Delhi and Bombay are doing. If you are cooped up at home or stuck in office waiting for the sun-time to pass, this post is for you! If you are too shy to step out or too careful about your skin, this post is for you. You can’t keep sitting in till sunset. Doesn’t that make you feel like an owl? You need to not let anything bring down that spark. So put on some lipstick and let’s hustle.

There are days when you only want to stay in bed, but I say we should save those days for monsoons or when your lover is in the mood for some mush time! 😛 Till then, pass the peak heat hour in a mall or a movie if that’s what it takes, but get out! Ideally it is the perfect season to be out and about. Plan a vacation, go swimming, stay outdoors and soak it all in.

My stint with freelance projects and full-time blogging is fairly new, and that kind of forces me to stay in pyjamas all day! Jugni is so not ok with that, need to get up-dress up-show up. With meetings happening off and on I needed to put together an easy look which can be considered formal enough for a client meeting and chic enough for just about anything else after that.

Summer, of a kind that bans me from exiting an air conditioned zone, is giving me the blues. A mood which makes me feel like i’m on a downward spiral. I had to pull myself out of this, and what better way than getting dolled up and shooting?! So here’s a pool blue bright top, with hot pink lips, well fitted denims and a dressy pair of shoes that makes me feel ready for any occasion any location. Kill the sun’s harmful rays with a full sleeve top, keep the fabric light and breezy, wear a cotton singlet inside, read more about which sunscreen you need to have HERE.

Jugni's Take

Shoes your wardrobe is begging for! #JugniFinds

Before the international brands came in, before the malls raided our pockets, before we could walk in to a hundred stores to buy one thing; there was one market, one store and one fixed place for all things we needed here in Pune.

Cakes at Kayani, Grocery at Chandan, Sandwiches at Marzorin, and shoes at ABBA. Abba (like the music band) has been the jewel on main street for over 20 years. Walking into this store will never be less than a memorable experience, friendly staff, great service and almost always available footwear; the kind you’ll like and the kind which fits like a dream!

Having a foot size of UK 41, it’s been a nightmare for me to buy shoes that I actually like and not a compromise because of my size requirement. Abba has been my one stop for heels, flats, ballerinas, chappals and formal shoes too. I did go to all the crazy expensive brands and the malls where I was not just disappointed with the lack of attention I got, but also, rarely got my size anyway.

All in all, if you need someone who is as passionate about shoes as yourself, meet the owners of Abba! They don’t have fancy salesmen or floor managers but they sell what they create with so much love and passion that you won’t be able to not see it! The variety is good, the range is oh-so-affordable, and you’ll get a shoe here that fits every occasion; meetings, parties, dailies or even gifting. Its all at Abba.

In our Jugni collaboration we had the chance to meet up with the New Zealand return shoe expert Mr. Zaheer Tejani and his wonderful mum who lovingly run the store and offered us dreamy shoes sole by sole.

We are showcasing different pairs on the blog, click on the image to read more about the look, outfit details and styling tips for these gorgeous shoes!
