Golden Girl, here is your go-to dress for this New Year’s Eve!

From Veronica to the girl in the fairness cream ad. This Gold sequin number was everywhere I looked and I couldn’t wait to own one. Once upon a time, the thought of shiny gold attire called to mind Las Vegas party girls. However, thanks to an especially strong showing on Fall 2016 runways, metallics—specifically gold—are poised to be a seasonal standout. The trend report was further confirmed with all the divas in B-town gracing Manish Malhotra’s birthday bash all dressed in gold!

This look was ideally inspired by Veronica DP’s character in Cocktail, I have had my eyes set on her beautiful gold sequin dress ever since. It can easily make you the queen in the crowd this NYE! Ideally for long party nights or fancy dinner outings. Exactly like Deepika in the movie, the dress boosted my confidence and for some reason made me feel like a total badass. Which is what you should be going for in this ongoing party season!

It’s time you invest in a sequinned outfit and be the Golden Girl you were always meant to be!

Shine on, be Jugni!

Jugni's Take Style

Dear Zindagi, I always want to dress like this.

Even though I don’t understand how you change every single day, I love you Zindagi.

Even though you take away people I love the most, I love you Zindagi.

Even though I plan, you change the rules of the game, I still love you Zindagi.

Many times we stumble upon words or visuals that effortlessly trigger an emotion in you. That’s the kind of effect I felt as I watched the different teasers of upcoming film Dear Zindagi. Aren’t we all in the race to repair-recycle-reuse ourselves? Just like they showed in the trailers? Post-breakup we hate all the coochy-cooing couples, we get annoyed with never ending traffic, we don’t ever truly disconnect from all our work and technology even when we’re on a break. But when we find that amazing parking spot right at the entrance of the store, or that tiny moment when we clear the green light by a second, that time when you get offered a drink at every hour in the club by different people. That moment we say, with all of that Love you Zindagi.

The over exaggerated snap stories, the over the top dressing for no reason, the unplanned solo trips, the weekend getaways with friends, the drunk nights, the yoga mornings.

Dear Zindagi, these are a few of my favorite things.

  • Cycling down a slope
  • Paper boats and origami too
  • Messy hair-don’t care vibe on someday
  • Long hugs
  • Passionate Kisses
  • Easy Goodbyes and teary eyed hellos!
  • Petrichor
  • Full Moons
  • Dipping my feet in the pool
  • Conversations that don’t end
  • Speaking to someone till the sunrise
  • Being alone, and sometimes never being alone
  • Being able to decide whatever I want & do it!

Dear Zindagi, You are my favorite.

The little things that not just bring you a smile but actually stay etched in your memory for a long time to come. As I etched back in nostalgia, I had to do a post, decoding Alia Bhatt’s easy breezy I-Already-Have-This-In-My-Wardrobe-Look.

Dear Zindagi, a film which seems to have the potential to change my life! I just have a strong urge that this movie will leave us with the exact same warm fuzzy leaving that we feel after sipping on hot cocoa on a cold lonely night. Shahrukh plays a coach & mentor to Alia who seems to have had a tricky past with Kunal Kapoor *drools* Angad Bedi and maybe a few more men. Did you know, the part where SRK and Alia was cycling and Alia fell off the cycle is actually inspired from a real life incident that occurred on the set of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai where Kajol on a similar occasion lost control of her cycle. So cute! Sport the Dear Zindagi looks and stay comfy all day wherever you go today! #LoveYouZindagi

One Kurta Three Ways. Hacks for a serial outfit repeater. #StyleGameStrong

I have always sorta-kinda-been in denial about being a fashion blogger. In my head, these superstar girls I follow are true fashion bloggers, not me. Like I toh barely even get there. Until ta-da this post! So easy, you absolutely have to try it!

Merging the trends of maxi tops and fusion kurtas, my designer created this beautiful classic white kurta for me. The see through georgette and the sexy sleeves makes the bottom pop, with almost any kind of pairing. Be it palazzos, Patiala salwar, slim fit pants or even a skirt or lehenga. Wear it with a printed salwar to the next Ganpati pooja you attend, or pair it with your hot fit denims and sky high heels to impress you girls on your next brunch outing. Have a look at the images below and you’ll be surprised at how a simple investment can go a long long repeatable way.

Let me know if you are a serial outfit repeater too, so we can share ideas of doing it without getting caught. The pressure is immense to not look the same on snap chat twice, and you get the drift. Hence, this blogger feels post comes your way urging you to invest in staple garments that can be played around with, without too much stress and guarantee you some self love and extra likes on your next upload too.

One dress four ways. Easy tips for effortless style!

It’s a horrible thing we have started doing, this whole Instagramming and snap chatting OOTD pictures. It adds layers of doubt in the decision to wear an outfit again!

If it has a picture taken and uploaded somewhere, I tend to let the picture do it’s social media time and more before even considering wearing it again, and when I do, it must be with a completely different audience.

Stress.

In all that self-created drama, let’s look at wearing a simple maxi dress repeatedly and stylishly! If you have a plain dress you know you can do oh-so-much with it, but here is a dress I love and the print is quite unique which not only makes it amazing but also makes it so difficult to repeat!

Layering is everything:

No rocket science there, throwing on a shrug or a jacket you know will change the look drastically. These days girls are wearing t-shirts over maxi dresses and using the dress as skirts, go figure! And, I was hesitating to put on a sweatshirt over my dress even while freezing. Hmm. Jugni issues. Layering makes styling an outfit easy, play with lengths, fabrics, styles too.

IMG_3019 IMG_3022

Added a simple cotton shirt and tied it up at the waist, very art-class look feels nai?

IMG_3023-Edit

The big messy hair is all thanks to our ever so unpredictable monsoon weather. yes, I’m kind of Monica Geller-ish with my hair when it gets humid. IMG_3032-Edit

Keeping the accessories same, I tried a dress on dress. Denim over a cotton maxi might sound off but actually looked pretty cool. It not only changed the look of my maxi but also allowed me to wear my denim dress again. See the denim dress post here.

How about a semi-formal jacket? Spunk up your maxi dress look with a full close button up or zip up jacket and change your look completely!

IMG_3062

Jewellery is everything! While trying to establish a particular look, the accessories you pair together really adds up to your look. I tried two different themes with dull gold and oxidised silver too. Keeping in mind the print of the maxi dress with those little coins can be turned into something ethnic, I liked how it added up. Do you?

Summer Weddings quick fix: Not so mehenga, lehenga. #OnlineShoppingFTW

“Main shaadi karungi toh Kareena Kapoor wala lehenga pehen kar karungi, warna dulhe ko tata bye bye kardo!” Alia Bhatt spoke my heart out, and not just mine thousands more. But wait, Brides these days are more bridezilla than quiet and nervous. So let’s shift focus on those who have a serious pressure of looking their best as well as getting all the Bridezilla tantrums in order. The Bridesmaids.

As we continued researching and putting together the top looks for upcoming summer weddings, we found the perfect outfit. The Lehenga. The wedding day, the reception nights, the sangeet performance, the mehndi night, the lehenga in its variants can fit in beautifully on any of these events. The lehenga choli is the only kind of outfit which can be played up or down as per event, or who’s wedding you are attending. Here are a few tips to sort your lehenga choice out:

  1. The colour: Bright blues, pinks, reds and greens will do well as day colours. Go earthy, metallic or powder pastels when picking one for the night.
  2. The embellishment: Work/ embroidery/ sequin/ stones help make your outfit grand or casual. Depending on who’s wedding you are attending, the time of the event and your budget the embellishment must be decided.
  3. The Fabric: Net, Georgette, Silk and anything flowy will give your garment the fall it needs. Pick the fabric as per your body type as well as how heavy would you like it to be. Most of these fabrics can be worn day  or night.
  4. Print: Summers will be too sad without florals, instead of an all out floral print, pick one like in the pictures below. Geometric prints are also classy and give you an edge above most common outfits at the wedding.

LMPL1273_IJFR

LMPL1275_IJFR

Ideal for a summer wedding, this lehenga guarantees to make me the most head-turning bridesmaid ever! Don’t you agree?

LMPL1285_IJFR

Look for tiny interesting elements like printed fabric on the edges of the dupatta, gold thread work on the lehenga, or a bold choli like this one.

LMPL1290_IJFR

LMPL1284_IJFRMake sure the length of your garment is apt for your body, touching the floor is the right one for garments like these.

The top 3 Desi Looks you need to add to your wardrobe, If you haven’t already.

You can do denims, skirts and dresses but nothing slays like an authentic Indian/ traditional look. Whether you’re the only one going design in college or adapting these into a routine family gathering, these are the 3 must have looks you need to try asap!

Kurta- Pallazzos

If you haven’t guessed it yet, I am obsessed with palazzo pants, they make me look taller and give me a feeling of being the most elegantly dressed when in a crowd! The trend started early 2015 and looks like it’s here to stay. Mix and match with interesting prints and colours to create different looks. They are so comfortable and effortlessly stylishly you might consider ditching all other forms of bottoms completely!

Patiala Salwar:

Nothing says casual desi like patiala suits, they define easy, functional style to me. Especially after Tanu weds Manu, I see myself turning to a patiala suit more often than not these days.

Jugni Tip: You need to find the right tailor to give you a real patiala salwar, it’s not as easy as it looks to have those perfect pleats in a hot fit, you might have to struggle with a few trials. But I suggest don’t settle till you feel full punjabi kuddie. Also, preferably get one from the north! I got this beautiful fabric from Ahmedabad for as less as INR 90 per metre and the short fitted kurta made me feel like Alia Bhatt from Humpty Sharma! If you don’t have this set in your wardrobe you are certainly missing out on a classic.

Kurti- Leggings

This is a cheat salwar kameez, or a chudidar kurta’s modernised version. It’s available everywhere you go and is so easy to carry. All the big brands have made multiple styles of kurtas ready to buy for us. From the A-lines, to the straight fits, the asymmetrical to a simple slit one like this they can all add interesting elements in your wardrobe. The gungroo on this kurta made me buy it without a second thought, also, the chudidar sleeves are so pretty nai?

Jugni Tip: Since leggings are skin tight, the length of the kurta should be below knee length or it can look weird, also colours like beige or skin tone for a legging will make it look like you aren’t wearing any, so be careful!

Wedding Series: Floor length dresses!

“If it’s pink or sparkly I want it…” That line could very well be printed on my bedroom wall, speaking of, we have recently done our bedroom, added a wall of frames and upped the theme a little. Styled these with an outfit so pink that you’ll be the source of sunshine in any party if you wear this. Ideal for a wedding party or even your own event, I got a custom made pink tie & dye/ lehriya fabric stitched into a breathtakingly beautiful floor length dress. Adding a string of diamonds to the highlight the one-shoulder cut is my favourite thing about the outfit. So next time you go fabric shopping, pick an Indian print and convert it into something like this. Ideal fusion and so pretty. What say?

Flower Power.

Did you know, ‘flower power’ was a term coined as a means to transform war protests into peaceful affirmative spectacles. Hippies embraced the symbolism by dressing in clothing with embroidered flowers and vibrant colors, wearing flowers in their hair, and distributing flowers to the public, becoming known as flower children

Overall exuberates a lot of power with a strong non-violent ideology. The trend became huge in the late 1960s and the 70’s fashion wave is all about florals! The best part about such clutter breaking trends is the way they make their way back into our lives. 2015 has been seeing a lot of the 70’s vibe. From our very own baba sporting the floral trend to all over the runways, though trends like these take time to trickle down to the aam janta like you and me, it’s here and it looks like it is here to stay.

The floral trend helps in adding a little elegant spunk to any attire, (indian as well as western outfits) be it the little flower tiara or fresh flower bracelets that we see on mehndi functions at weddings. Florals are not just for spring, they are an all time hit now! Short printed dresses look adorable on any day, and then there is the maxi floral which I just cannot seem to get enough of!

IMG_1300 IMG_1333 IMG_1334 IMG_1335 IMG_1336 IMG_1338 IMG_1339

Take dresses like these to the next level, with sharp makeup, sky high heels and an attitude that will make everyone stop and take notice when you walk in looking like a million bucks!

Also, don’t forget that the flower power still symbolises so much history that you must feel like you are embodying a movement, a rebellion of sorts. For freedom, beauty and your own right to kill with cuteness! Go, be a gulaabo. #shaandaar #idea

Playing dress up

Whoever said that you dress up to go about your daily chores, probably hasn’t even heard of casual chic dressing. Or maybe he/she just hasn’t watched finding fanny. ?

This look is quite obviously inspired from Deepika Padukone in Finding Fanny. Though the movie didn’t change my life or anything, it certainly made me think of doing this look, and being so effortlessly pretty in my everyday. This dress is as basic as it gets, the wow part of it is the length and the fit. Get your hands on one like this from your nearest bangkok maal ka boutique or street shops!

First look: Everyday chores look.

Like even vegetable shooping (if you’re still doing it) or you know running errands, or getting work done for the house. Even college maybe. Easy flats, thrown on knotted shirt and a cloth bag to really nail thay casual vibe.

Second look: Out with my girls!

As carrie would have defined this, add an interesting element like a head gear? Or a statement handbag , switch to kitten heels to up the look and voila the same dress ins not same anymore.

Keep the makeup light and natural, top it with your facourite lipcolour and we are all set!  The neckline  allowed me to flaunt my latest stacked  nevpiece from forever 21 and my tein ring went perfectly with it. Dont you love it when a styled look falls perfectly in place piece by piece ?

Try a different length of dress on yourself you will be surpirised how much it can change your whole appearance!

Until the next post, Stay Jugni ❤️

Monsoon Gloom to Glam!

“Fashion is about dreaming, and making other people dream.”

Such inspiring words to read on a monday, nai? Whenever i start to feel a little worthless, i read these random quotes on pinterest, though the effects are not long lasting, temporarily they lift me up! have you ever tried? This post is another effort to help you dream a little dream to be a glam diva!

That is exactly how I felt, with a new photographer and a full fledged hi-fashion shoot. Hair, make up, lights et al. We’ve tried to level up this post onwards doing better pictures not just for Jugni & Co. but to make you dream of this glam feeling, ok i know i said that before, but you get the excitement right? Monsoon on most days gets to me, makes me gloomy, makes me worry about my frizzy hair and being unable to wear long gowns and sexy heels. ‘Gloom to Glam’ was inspired from that feeling.

So what do you do when the baarish is not filmy and pretty, it is sad and makes you stay indoors all the time? You lift yourself up, with fashion quotes, vogue, and extra doses of caffeine. Shown below are too simple looks, that i am pretty sure you have in your wardrobe. These dresses are basic, but the make up is grand! With our hair and makeup specialist Saba Poonawala (follow her on instagram!), She made me understand that any look can be glammed up with the right kind of make up. so pay close attention to monsoon special makeup trends!

Monsoon make-up tips:

  1. Stay clear from liquid foundations, stick to powder press compacts or go ahead and invest in this magical product that I swear by. The MAC studio fix. It has never failed me, gives enough coverage and keeps me photo ready always!
  2. Try a Dia Mirza inspired dewy-dreamy look, use a little shimmer-mineralise powder all over the face, highlight your cheekbones with a light pink/peach shimmer highlighter like the one i use. Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer brick, it’s a little expensive but so pretty! As seen in the first look.
  3. If the au natural look is not your type, do a nice bold liner like the deep blue used in look 2 below, and super bright lips. Bright pink or a bold red rarely does any harm to anyone. Nude lips, might just look more gloomy if not paired with the right outfit and eyes. Bright lips always add that happy zest to your face and the over all look.
  4. When it’s about lining and accentuating the eyes, waterproof picks are a no-brainer. But these formulations have chemicals that dry the lashes and sensitive skin on the eyelids. To maintain the resilience of your lashes first coat them with a volumising or lengthening mascara. Build it up by topping with waterproof mascara. When it comes to liners, for a flawless matte finish, go for a felt-pen liner or a gel liner verses a pencil that’s cream-based. It dries quickly and stays put.
  5. Final tip: Seal in your look with a make up fixer, the one from MAC is amazing!
