Dressing for Dandiya nights, when you don’t have a chaniya-choli! #NavratriMustHave

Happy Navratri!

A few years ago, I used to plan and prepare for Navratri nights weeks in advance with my white plastic bangle sets, authentic outfits, and accessories. I even had a family friend courier the outfit to me from Ahmedabad, because the patterns there were so updated and prettier from the ones here in Pune. Did you also take a 3-day crash course in Garba pre-navratri? School dandiya night, society dandiya, and ones in the clubs here in Pune. Then came those random events at grounds where TV stars would come and give away best-dressed awards and best group Garba awards. My God the pressure used to be intense.

Some days those used to be no? Coming to the present. I barely realise when Navratri starts unless Mom announces it. So here I am, stuck with no prep and a few Garba nights ahead of me.

Activated Jugni mode and we came up with a quick fix for our readers too. Dive into your wardrobe for heavy dupattas (preferably with shells / mirrorwork / bandini / lehriya / phulkari) as ethnic as it can get. Bring out all those old tucked away accessories, oxidised stuff, maang tikkas, bangles, kamar bands and more. The trick is to layout all options you have and then put together a look.

Doing the same, here are two easy-peasy looks for Dandiya nights. Also, google Deepu in RamLeela for makeup references just like me and go all out with drawings on the face and neck. So sexy.

Another Navratri special DIY look coming up in the next post, stay tuned. Psst. If you are a fan of reusing old dresses and pom-poms you’ll love it. Till then, tell us if you have simply draped a heavy dupatta on your old tee and jeans for dandiya before?

Cold Shoulders and Ripped Jeans! #TrendAlert

Who knew giving a cold shoulder would be cool!

Cold shoulder tops are the rage right now. And they are so perfect for the summer. What I love about them is the perfect balance of skin show and hide! These consist of peek-a-boo sleeves, off shoulders, one shoulder tops or in-cut sleeves, punch hole sleeves and many more. Basically all those that flaunt your sexy shoulders!

Try them in basic colours with interesting denims like the one below, or even pair this with a fitted skirt for a casual chic vibe. These looks also show my love for basic solid colours and how black and white are the answers to any style problem. You are never over or under dressed when you put on the classics.

Don’t you agree? Have a look and let me know how you liked this easy look.

The top 3 Desi Looks you need to add to your wardrobe, If you haven’t already.

You can do denims, skirts and dresses but nothing slays like an authentic Indian/ traditional look. Whether you’re the only one going design in college or adapting these into a routine family gathering, these are the 3 must have looks you need to try asap!

Kurta- Pallazzos

If you haven’t guessed it yet, I am obsessed with palazzo pants, they make me look taller and give me a feeling of being the most elegantly dressed when in a crowd! The trend started early 2015 and looks like it’s here to stay. Mix and match with interesting prints and colours to create different looks. They are so comfortable and effortlessly stylishly you might consider ditching all other forms of bottoms completely!

Patiala Salwar:

Nothing says casual desi like patiala suits, they define easy, functional style to me. Especially after Tanu weds Manu, I see myself turning to a patiala suit more often than not these days.

Jugni Tip: You need to find the right tailor to give you a real patiala salwar, it’s not as easy as it looks to have those perfect pleats in a hot fit, you might have to struggle with a few trials. But I suggest don’t settle till you feel full punjabi kuddie. Also, preferably get one from the north! I got this beautiful fabric from Ahmedabad for as less as INR 90 per metre and the short fitted kurta made me feel like Alia Bhatt from Humpty Sharma! If you don’t have this set in your wardrobe you are certainly missing out on a classic.

Kurti- Leggings

This is a cheat salwar kameez, or a chudidar kurta’s modernised version. It’s available everywhere you go and is so easy to carry. All the big brands have made multiple styles of kurtas ready to buy for us. From the A-lines, to the straight fits, the asymmetrical to a simple slit one like this they can all add interesting elements in your wardrobe. The gungroo on this kurta made me buy it without a second thought, also, the chudidar sleeves are so pretty nai?

Jugni Tip: Since leggings are skin tight, the length of the kurta should be below knee length or it can look weird, also colours like beige or skin tone for a legging will make it look like you aren’t wearing any, so be careful!

Tee-Series: Styling a round neck t-shirt, again.

Taking cue from our last post in the same series that you can read here; I am still obsessing over the 3 uber cool doodled t-shirts that I got designed by The Filmy owl (Angel Bedi) from PosterGully.com

I was absolutely overwhelmed when so many of you sent me photos wearing the same t-shirts! Yay, blogger feel. Keeping the core thought the same, we cannot do with them can’t do without. Round neck basic t-shirts or chest print t-shirts are not just to work out or sleep in, they need to be worn out. You need to surprise yourself at how stylish you can make this wardrobe staple look. Watch and learn 😛

_DSC7577 _DSC7561 _DSC7547

It’s not difficult to understand when you add crisp white denims and heeled footwear you are definitely going strong on your style game. I have worn the same t-shirt with shorts as well as harem pants and I swear the whole look becomes unique with different shoes and pants. Also, makeup and accessories. The bag, shoes, red lips, earrings all add up to this look and makes it wearable to a dinner or evening wear.

#MaaKaWardrobe Here’s what you can do with that gorgeous silk saree.

When it comes to classic pieces, I find all my answers in Mumma’s wardrobe. From the most epic dupattas to authentic embroidery and fabrics that stay forever there is everything!

I have been eyeing Maa’s saree collection for the longest time, and when I finally got my hands on this one I knew I wanted to create magic with it. So, out of the many things you can do with your mom’s silk saree you can also convert it into a beautiful pleated skirt/lehenga. Just like you’ll see in the pictures below. This classic digital print, pure silk, gold and sea green piece is my Nani Maa’s treasure passed on to my mother and is now mine. By adding a pop of blue in a beautiful raw silk, I tried to put in a little life onto the colour which made me look a little pale when draped as a saree.

The saree has so much legacy attached to it, I almost feel like I’m wearing years of family style with each step in my new skirt. Crop top and skirt trend looks like it’s here to stay, hence it just fits well with fashion today created by a piece from the 60’s. What do you think of it? Do you have an old treasure from #MaaKaWardrobe that you would like to revamp? Write into us and let’s brainstorm together!

Move over coconuts, eggs to the rescue! Mane Management Tip.

Recently while in a makeup workshop, the hair and makeup expert said that soon we will all be wearing hair extensions. In the US, she mentioned they are available over the counter at every store in the street! Yaeeks!

That got me thinking of this insane hair fall that I have been struggling with, so besides the methi and the curd packs, and the various treatments as well as home remedies I kept desperately waiting for something better. Then came in something i have not been able to put away, as I grew used to it!

Eyova. Have you heard of egg oil yet? Yes, eggs, they can make your mane fabulous too! I couldn’t keep the find just to myself, hence this review for all my lovelies!

Firstly, Since egg oil contains cholesterol, it helps the oil absorb into the outer layer of our scalp. It also stabilises and maintains the complex intercellular-skin matrix, allowing the skin a natural repair and rejuvenation. The cholesterol in eggs is an active element that helps moisturise dry hair strands. It helps heal and strengthen the hair by reducing frizz adding shine and smoothness to your hair. Being rich in sources of Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, egg oil contains EFA which is a very vital ingredient in the role of hair care. It helps in preventing poor scalp conditions which cause dandruff and hair loss, as per an article in the TOI.

Product Claims:

  • Prevents premature hair loss
  • Prevents premature hair greying
  • Eliminates dandruff
  • Repairs hair damage
  • Adds luster and shine to hair

pro1

What I think:

So I received this product in July, it mentions the need for it to be used for a minimum of four weeks for any results. So I did, but with the erratic monsoons, and the humid weather my hair still acted weird for about 3 weeks, as in I did not feel any big change in the texture or the hair fall. Still keeping at it, as the weather changed and my habit with the oiling continued, I could feel the magic in the product, my hair fall has not stopped miraculously but has definitely reduced. More than that, it’s the shine and luster that I can see on my mane! Less fizz, easy to manage and prettier for sure.

Thanks to Eyova, I now have a good habit, which my mom is very happy with. No more routine expenses on random hair treatments. No more egg white masks, which are smelly and messy and not easy to do on a routine. Healthy hair. I did apply the product twice a week, every week for about 8-9 weeks, kept it on overnight and did not use excessive shampoo. It is very easy to remove, which is one of my big concerns with coconut oil and especially castor oil. So I can shampoo without really murdering my hair shafts.

I highly recommend for you to try Eyova, read more about it www.eyova.com, go ahead and buy a bottle from here : http://shop.eyova.com/eshop/index.php/egg-oil/eyova-50-ml-india.html. You must also share this new and awesome find with all your friends who need hair care. Also, I really wanted to do a fancy photo shoot with mere lambe ghane baal, strong and shiny, and while using the product. But that would be a little too dramatic na? Isiliye, serious review. Jaldi kharido. Tell me how you like it. Will you use an egg oil?

Monsoon Gloom to Glam!

“Fashion is about dreaming, and making other people dream.”

Such inspiring words to read on a monday, nai? Whenever i start to feel a little worthless, i read these random quotes on pinterest, though the effects are not long lasting, temporarily they lift me up! have you ever tried? This post is another effort to help you dream a little dream to be a glam diva!

That is exactly how I felt, with a new photographer and a full fledged hi-fashion shoot. Hair, make up, lights et al. We’ve tried to level up this post onwards doing better pictures not just for Jugni & Co. but to make you dream of this glam feeling, ok i know i said that before, but you get the excitement right? Monsoon on most days gets to me, makes me gloomy, makes me worry about my frizzy hair and being unable to wear long gowns and sexy heels. ‘Gloom to Glam’ was inspired from that feeling.

So what do you do when the baarish is not filmy and pretty, it is sad and makes you stay indoors all the time? You lift yourself up, with fashion quotes, vogue, and extra doses of caffeine. Shown below are too simple looks, that i am pretty sure you have in your wardrobe. These dresses are basic, but the make up is grand! With our hair and makeup specialist Saba Poonawala (follow her on instagram!), She made me understand that any look can be glammed up with the right kind of make up. so pay close attention to monsoon special makeup trends!

Monsoon make-up tips:

  1. Stay clear from liquid foundations, stick to powder press compacts or go ahead and invest in this magical product that I swear by. The MAC studio fix. It has never failed me, gives enough coverage and keeps me photo ready always!
  2. Try a Dia Mirza inspired dewy-dreamy look, use a little shimmer-mineralise powder all over the face, highlight your cheekbones with a light pink/peach shimmer highlighter like the one i use. Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer brick, it’s a little expensive but so pretty! As seen in the first look.
  3. If the au natural look is not your type, do a nice bold liner like the deep blue used in look 2 below, and super bright lips. Bright pink or a bold red rarely does any harm to anyone. Nude lips, might just look more gloomy if not paired with the right outfit and eyes. Bright lips always add that happy zest to your face and the over all look.
  4. When it’s about lining and accentuating the eyes, waterproof picks are a no-brainer. But these formulations have chemicals that dry the lashes and sensitive skin on the eyelids. To maintain the resilience of your lashes first coat them with a volumising or lengthening mascara. Build it up by topping with waterproof mascara. When it comes to liners, for a flawless matte finish, go for a felt-pen liner or a gel liner verses a pencil that’s cream-based. It dries quickly and stays put.
  5. Final tip: Seal in your look with a make up fixer, the one from MAC is amazing!

#TrendAlert. Did you know about maxi tops? Move over maxi dresses!

I love fashion and there is no easier way to express yourself than through the clothes you wear.
-Victoria Justice

For some random reason I felt like some kind of royalty in this outfit, the elegance, the length, the way it swayed with the wind and how it made my red lips pop out beautifully! You know how we all have this simple outfit that we feel like a total princess in, this maxi slit out top did just that to me!

If the Maxi dresses craze was not enough, see some here & here. Here come the maxi tops, pair them with shorts, jeggings, palazzo pants or even a maxi skirt and somehow they will team up beautifully. Maxi tops just like the one I am wearing can be seen on this website!

Also known as slit-outs, these are known to give you the illusion of a taller leaner body and also make you want to twirl around whenever you can 😛 Shooting at sunrise gave us the perfect light to enhance the outfit as well as, oh, me! It’s been such a fun post this one, I am thinking of putting together many more outfits that make me feel a little more royal, a little more princessy than the daily deal! Would you like that too? Would you tell me your easy-peasy style tips that make you a princess?

Also, this seems to be the ideal option for a pool party, a brunch day, or even a day out with family since you can cover the slit up easily and pull it off as a dress! you can buy it from here!

Pairing white shorts came as a natural choice, the turquoise blue earrings and ditto shoes went just like hand in glove and also added a different colour element to the look. Try and do that when you put together a look, break it with a different colour, justify the colour by teaming a bag or shoes of the same family.

Jugni's Take

Shoes your wardrobe is begging for! #JugniFinds

Before the international brands came in, before the malls raided our pockets, before we could walk in to a hundred stores to buy one thing; there was one market, one store and one fixed place for all things we needed here in Pune.

Cakes at Kayani, Grocery at Chandan, Sandwiches at Marzorin, and shoes at ABBA. Abba (like the music band) has been the jewel on main street for over 20 years. Walking into this store will never be less than a memorable experience, friendly staff, great service and almost always available footwear; the kind you’ll like and the kind which fits like a dream!

Having a foot size of UK 41, it’s been a nightmare for me to buy shoes that I actually like and not a compromise because of my size requirement. Abba has been my one stop for heels, flats, ballerinas, chappals and formal shoes too. I did go to all the crazy expensive brands and the malls where I was not just disappointed with the lack of attention I got, but also, rarely got my size anyway.

All in all, if you need someone who is as passionate about shoes as yourself, meet the owners of Abba! They don’t have fancy salesmen or floor managers but they sell what they create with so much love and passion that you won’t be able to not see it! The variety is good, the range is oh-so-affordable, and you’ll get a shoe here that fits every occasion; meetings, parties, dailies or even gifting. Its all at Abba.

In our Jugni collaboration we had the chance to meet up with the New Zealand return shoe expert Mr. Zaheer Tejani and his wonderful mum who lovingly run the store and offered us dreamy shoes sole by sole.

We are showcasing different pairs on the blog, click on the image to read more about the look, outfit details and styling tips for these gorgeous shoes!
